The Hunter’s moon | Full Moon of October
When the Moon appears as a complete
circle in the sky, it is called a full Moon. A Full Moon occurs when the Moon has moved in its orbit
so that Earth is “between” the Moon and the Sun. When the Sun's rays
illuminate the entire side of the Moon facing the Earth, we view it as a full
globe. The Earth which is between the Sun and the moon now will not be a
problem for light rays from the sun because of the diffraction of light. The
Moon does not create visible light of its own, we can only view the areas of it
that are illuminated by other objects. A little amount of light comes from
faraway stars as well as the Earth's reflection of light. The Sun, on the other
hand, is the Moon's primary source of light. A full moon will occur nearly once every 29.5 days. The full moon in the month of October is also named Hunter’s
moon. Because this time crops have been harvested and Hunters can hunt animals
at night in the open crop areas.
